XSLT to HTML converter

Paste an XML file and its XSL stylesheet. The page runs the transform in your browser and gives you finished HTML to preview, copy or download.

Last updated: · What changed: Added an accuracy table, coverage statement and Chrome 158 sourcing, and a new operator section on the About page.

    Why convert to HTML now

Plugins and hand-written feeds often ship an XSL file so that opening the XML in a browser shows a table instead of tags. That works only while the browser itself runs XSLT. Turning the page into plain HTML once means every browser can show it, with no stylesheet step at all.

The result keeps whatever your stylesheet writes: the table, the inline styles, the links. Save it as sitemap.html or feed.html, link to it from your site, and keep the XML file for search engines and readers.

Errors point to a line and a column

If either box is not well-formed XML, the page names the box, the line and the column of the first problem, for example an unclosed tag or a bare ampersand. Fix that spot and convert again. The XML validator does the same check on its own and can pretty-print a file.

    Questions

How do I convert XML to HTML with an XSL file?

Paste the XML in the left box and the XSL stylesheet in the right box, or upload both files, then press Convert to HTML. The page shows a preview, the HTML source, and a button to download the result as an .html file.

Which XSLT engine does the converter use?

The converter loads the open-source XSLT polyfill from this site: libxslt compiled to WebAssembly, BSD-3-Clause licensed. It does not call the browser's own XSLT, so it works the same after browsers remove it.

Does it support XSLT 2.0 or 3.0?

No. The engine is libxslt, which implements XSLT 1.0 and the EXSLT extensions. A stylesheet with version="2.0" or "3.0" that uses newer functions needs a different engine such as Saxon-JS, or a rewrite.

    Is my XML uploaded anywhere?

No. The converter, the validator and the CSS generator run in your browser and nothing you paste or upload is sent to our server. Only the URL checker contacts a server, and only to fetch the public address you typed.

    Why is the preview sandboxed?

The converted page can contain anything your stylesheet writes, including scripts. The preview frame has scripting switched off, so the page can show its layout and links but cannot run code.

What happens with a very large file?

Input up to 500 KB is free. Bigger files, and converting several XML files with one stylesheet, are part of the Batch Pack.
